YONO App UPI Payments for Non-SBI Account Holders: Everything You Need to Know

State Bank of India (SBI) has made it possible for any bank user to make United Payments Interface (UPI) payments using its YONO app to broaden the appeal of its digital banking products. In short, this means that using the UPI capabilities of the YONO mobile app no longer requires having an SBI bank account. In a statement to the press, the public sector bank stated, "With 'YONO' for every Indian, any bank customer will now have access to UPI features like Pay by Contact, Scan & Pay, and Request Money in the new avatar of YONO."

How does it work?

The iPhone App Store and the Google Play Store offer the SBI YONO Mobile Banking App. For those who do not have SBI accounts, the onboarding procedure is extremely straightforward. The 'New to SBI' option will be available when downloading this app. The 'Register Now' option is located immediately underneath it. Users without SBI accounts can click "Register Now."

On the next page, you can "Register to Make UPI Payments". Keep in mind that your phone number must be connected to your bank account number in order to use this service. In the next step, you must select the SIM that is connected to your bank account. Your mobile phone will send an SMS to the number you specify to confirm it. The bank states that the standard fees will apply to this message.

What to do after registration starts.

When your number has been validated, you must choose your bank to generate the UPI ID. Either type the name of your bank or choose it from a selection. You will receive a notice stating that registering for SBI Pay has begun. Please notify your bank right away if it is not you.

Your bank account number is shown at the top of your screen. Create an SBI UPI handle right away. You can choose one of the three UPI IDs SBI offers.

After choosing a UPI ID, you will see a notice that says, "You have successfully created an SBI UPI handle." The UPI handle you chose is displayed on the screen.

How to set MPIN?

To sign into your account and begin making payments, you must create an MPIN. In the following step, you must choose a six-digit Permanent MPIN to connect to your account. You need to make sure the MPIN is six digits long. The bank's guidelines also cover choosing the numbers to set the MPIN. Set your MPIN after carefully reading it.
