Banking Ombudsman: RBI Says One Stop Solution For Issues Related To ATM/ Debit Cards, Mobile/ Electronic Banking, Credit Cards

Issues connected with ATM/check cards, portable/electronic banking, Mastercards, inability to meet responsibilities, and non-recognition of reasonable practices code was the best five grounds of grumblings got at the Office of Banking Ombudsman (OBO) during July 2020-March 2021, said an RBI report on Wednesday.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has delivered the Annual Report of the Ombudsman Schemes for the year 2020-21, which has been arranged for the nine-month time frame from July 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021, in arrangement with the adjustment of the monetary year of the RBI from 'July-June' to 'April-March' with impact from July 1, 2020. It covers the exercises under the Banking Ombudsman Scheme, 2006 (BOS), the Ombudsman Scheme for Non-Banking Financial Companies, 2018 (OSNBFC), and the Ombudsman Scheme for Digital Transactions, 2019 (OSDT).

The BOS represented 90.13 percent of complete grumblings (2,73,204) got under the three ombudsman plans. The number of protests got under OSNBFC and OSDT remained at 8.89 percent and 0.98 percent, individually, of the complete number of grievances. Grumblings connected with (a) ATM/charge cards and (b) portable/electronic banking (c) Visas (d) inability to meet responsibilities and (e) non-recognition of reasonable practices code (FPC) were the main five grounds of protests got at the OBOs

The portions of ATM/check card grumblings, versatile/electronic banking, and Mastercard objections to adding up to protests got during July 1, 2020-March 31, 2021, remained at 17.40 percent, 12.98 percent, and 12.36 percent, separately. The relating level of grumblings against these grounds during July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020, was 21.97 percent, 13.38 percent, and 9.30 percent, separately. RB-IOS, 2021 will supplant the three existing Ombudsman Schemes: BOS, OSNBFC, and OSDT.

The plan was sent off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 12, 2021. It has embraced a 'One Nation-One Ombudsman' approach, for all clients of RBI-controlled elements.
